One of West Africa's most impressive wildlife parks, Parc National du W, awaits you on the banks of the Niger river less than 200 km south of the capital city of Niamey, Niger. Parc W gets its name from the bends in the river where an impressive array of animals and migratory birds congregate every year during the dry season on the edge of the Sahel. Between the months of Feburary and May, carniverous animals typically found in this area include lions, leopards, cheetahs, hyenas and jackals, as well as plenty of elephants, crocodiles, hippos, buffalo, antelope and baboon. A vast number of bird species are joined by rare migratory aquatic birds during the dry season-a special treat for bird lovers! The spectacular natural setting of this game park where the dry savannah woodland of the Sahel meets the moister savannahs to the south in a transition zone that straddles the west African countries of Burkina Faso, Benin, Niger, makes a visit worthwhile any time between December and May when the park is open. Before we tour the wildlife park, we will make a brief expedition to the colorful market in Ayorou on the banks of the Niger river where merchants come from all corners of the region as well as a trip by canoe to a nearby watering hole frequented by hippos. Nomade Sahara Expedition's team of knowledgeable local guides awaits the pleasure of introducing you to this region's natural beauty and cultural vitality.
